The Young School was founded in 1991 by JoAnn Bell, who believes that a premier education combines the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics with artistic, musical, and environmental experiences.

At the Young School, we integrate academics with community service. We learn about ourselves through the achievements of the past, particularly in the classical world. We honor the individual character of each child. It was Ignacio Estrada who suggested, “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.”
