THE YOUNG SCHOOL WAS FOUNDED in 1991 by JoAnn Bell. In establishing the school, the founder believed that a quality education must include a solid foundation in the basics of reading, writing, mathematics, artistic, musical and environmental experiences, and an appreciation for great literature. The Young School actively incorporates practices which enable teaching and learning to be viewed as the same process. This is a shared process in which teacher, student and parent are all joined. Recent studies indicate that the success of a student's career depends upon his or her relationship to the parents, and on the parents' interest and involvement in their child's school. Thus, the children become the heartbeat of the school, the teacher the mentor and the parents the support system. We are a family-centered school dedicated to fostering respect for each person and building lasting relationships.
