11TH ANNUAL YOUNG SCHOOL BENEFIT
Forever Young included silent and live auctions
St. Helena, California,
winter 2010---Forever Young, The Young School’s eleventh annual benefit
fundraiser, took place on February 6, 2010 at Quintessa.
The auction’s top lots were, in order, a collection of 23 wines by mothers of
Young School students and other women-mother-winemakers of the Napa Valley
(“Red Hot Mamas”), a collection from Harlan, a blending session with Martha
McClellan and Bob Levy, an evening of Indian food and culture and a collection
of 25 wines and visit-tour-experiences in the Spring Mountain District
appellation.
The evening was a sold-out success, with food by Tra Vigne, flamenco music by
Jason Walters and jazz by The Hot Club of Marin.
The school’s fundraising efforts continue with an online auction lot, an Insider’s Tour of Napa Valley, available

The Young School is located at 957 Brown Street, St. Helena CA 94574. The
School’s non-profit tax id number is 68-0338995.
Founded in 1991 by JoAnn Bell, The Young School is a private non-profit
non-denominational Montessori-derived program for children ages 6 through 12
years old/first-sixth grades. The name of the school is taken from two sisters
named ‘Young’ who were well-known Sonoma teachers several decades ago. The
first Young School was founded in their home in downtown Sonoma. In 1997 the
school moved from its Sonoma location to St. Helena in the Napa Valley.
The Young School operates as a ‘one-room schoolhouse’ in quarters rented from a
church in a residential neighborhood of St. Helena. The Young School follows a
‘tutorial’ approach to education, where children are tasked on their abilities
and interests; the School has a 12-1 student-teacher ratio and is respected for
its rigorous academics complemented by frequent field trips, enrichment in
foreign language classes and music programs as well as community outreach.
Distinctive—and possibly unusual---about The Young School also is the level of
parent involvement, whether the camping weekends the entire student/parent body
participates in, or regular social celebrations and meetings. Also distinctive
is that students spend their recess and P.E. time outside as a group, with all
ages interacting equally and enthusiastically. The Young School is a well kept
secret, pledged to keeping its tuition low to offer an affordable alternative
for a classics-based.
